Gamebook Adventures 7: Temple of the Spider God App Reviews

Rrrrr

Fun until you die at the same part over and over again the fighting is to much dependent on luck, actually the game/book.

Its fun...

I got it for 99c, and thats definitely the most I would pay for it. Its a well written story, interspersed with exponentially harder battles. Even with bookmarks, its tough to come out on top against some of the ridiculous stats your foes are endowed with. I would have been annoyed had I paid the $5 regular price - but I would buy another one for 99c - happily.

Temple of the Spider god

This is the first game book that I have tried from Tin Man Games. It brought back a lot of memories of my youth, wasting time playing DnD. I cant recommend it enough, lots of fun in any level of difficulty. I cant wait to try their other game books. They are well worth the price.

Good adventure, bad combat system

As a long time player of Fighting Fantasy and others, I was glad to see TMG taking their own direction on it. Spider God is a really solid adventure, a lot of fun... Except for the bad combat system (even in Casual mode you cannot win without a lot of cheat-healing) and an error that you cannot have the sacrificial kinfe and also win the book. Still. A fun adventure well worth a couple of bucks.

I love this one.

A very great game in the series.

great series!

All the volumes are wonderful. Takes me back to my choose your own adventure books.

Wow, another great adventure!

Wish there were more like this out there on OS. These games take me back to my childhood and bring me an epic sense of living an adventure. Dont pass this one up!

Challenging, but fair!

The best of the GA series so far, Spider God introduces a new phobia element to the series. As a phobia roll is alway against a target of 7, it remains a challenge even on novice difficulty. There are far fewer instant death passages, making it quite a bit fairer than earlier books. The writing is evocative and immersive. It only suffers in the vagueness of several "Or do you do something else?" entries. Full colour art is a nice addition to the already high production values of the series. Highly recommended!

A step up from an already high-level gamebook series!

Having owned all the previous installments of Tin Man Games previous gamebooks, this one is a great improvement on the pre-existing system. With the addition of phobia checks and partners to help you in battle, it really helps to add more diversity to the gameplay. The illustrations in the book are very high quality and the best by far and the story is on par with the better gamebooks in the series from judging after my first playthrough. Overall, I am enjoying the new game mechanics and I would recommend to anyone already a fan of the series or even a newcomer who has read the description and seems mildly interested.

Woah!

Im surprised that these things arent more popular! I never played one before but I saw this on sale and gave it a try. Im glad I did its flippin addicting! I wanna get the other ones now.

Fix

Fix the combat system...you keep having to re-fight fights you just won on the next roll check. Also, while youre at it, spice up the combat with more depth , variables etc....rolling a 6 sided dice over and over gets tedious.

Please fix!!!!

Would enjoy game better if they would fix the re-rolling of checks and combat. Very annoying to have to re-roll results and fail them after you passed them the first time. Giving one star until the problem is fixed.

Needs to be fixed

I agree with earlier reviewers that this game is not worth playing until they fix the repeating roll/combat bug. Once thats done, it should be fun and will deserve a new review.

Fix it please

As soon as you fix that re-combat bug youll have a winner

Buggy on iPad2 as well

This is a fun take on the old Choose Your Own Adventure books, with a simple combat system added in. Id give it 4 or 5 stars, except for a few bugs. I experienced a few random crashes on my iPad2. Not necessarily a big deal - restarting the app took me right to where Id left off. A few times, I did a fitness or a phobia roll and then wound up back on the page without any possible action. I had no choice but to restart the game from scratch. A couple of other times, I undefeated a monster, and then in the next battle. Id wind up facing that same monster rather than the one I was supposed to be facing. If I won, Id wind When up on a page once again with no valid option to move forward. As above, my only choice was to restart the game from scratch. I did manage to play the game all the way through once to the end, which is why I give it 2 stars rather than one, But bugs that make you restart from the beginning are pretty much a deal breaker for me. When these issues get fixed, Ill happily change this to a four or five star rating.

Fixed and recommended until I got to the end

Was fun until I got to the end and SPOILER You die if you dont pass a phobia check. Meaning if you roll with 2 dice a 7 or higher you lose...... No matter your weapons items armor. Nothing you do helps. I was going to buy more of your products but if this is how you interpret a choose your own adventure Im done.

Brings back the good old days!

This game is awesome, it brings back the memories from the choose your own adventure type books I used to read when I was younger. After you guys fixed the re-roll combat bug Ive not had any bugs. I played thru just fine on an 8GB 2nd Gen iPod. To the person who got mad at dying from losing a roll, choose your own adventure books had you "dying" all the time. Thats why theres the feature of bookmarks the developers put in. Ive played it thru multiple times and still havent done everything to do. Great game. 5 stars, will buy more of your products. Thank you.

Great Old-School Gamebook Fun

A fantastic homage to the gamebooks of yesteryear, updated to take advantage of new technology with welcome features like bookmarks and achievements. Highly recommended to anyone with fond memories of the Fighting Fantasy series.

Expert App

Brings excitement back to reading. Dynamic gameplay while keeping the reading spirit alive. Like a video game you read. Phobia check is annoying, truly random luck, but overall great story and interesting gameplay. Chooses really matter to the story from beginning to end. Keep the gamebooks coming.

Shiny!

This is what every "Choose Your Own Adventure" book SHOULD be! We read along with Mike & Drew, of "The More You Nerd", and are so glad that we did. Great, stable, well thought-out App.
